A Green Renovation for Buffalo
Apartments

Peace Bridge Place is a 105-unit residential building that underwent a comprehensive green renovation to transition into a fully electrified, net-zero carbon building. The project was driven by a commitment to eliminate fossil fuel dependency and modernize the historic 1915 building. In place of traditional heating and cooling, a ground-source geothermal loop system was isntalled beneath the property's parking lot to cleanly manage the building's entire heating and cooling infrastructure.

At the heart, Silver Gardens features a geothermal system designed to do it all. The system provides 100% of the building's heating, cooling, and domestic hot water needs, with no fossil fuel or electric backup. Its 60-ton heating and cooling capacity and 10-ton DHW capacity are supported by 15 vertical boreholes, each 400 feet deep.

Inside the building, 61 ducted geothermal heat pumps, four console heat pumps, and two DHW heat pumps deliver efficient year-round comfort. Two Wilo MAXO Stratos ECM pumps circulate the geothermal source water in a lead/standby configuration, using an average of just 7 watts per ton of capacity. The result is a high-performance system that puts efficiency, reliability, and resident comfort at the center of the building's design.
